Hi Y’all

Welcome to my blog. I hope you’ll enjoy visiting my little slice of internet heaven. Previously Tomes and Tequila, I’m now Candid Christine.

New Beauty Faves

New Beauty Faves

I’ve recently made a few makeup/beauty purchases that wowed me, and had to share with my friends. Y’all know I’m a massive makeup fanatic…a tried and true Sephora VIB…which for those of you who aren’t makeup addicts just means that I’ve spent WAY too much money at that shiny store full of magic potions, along with other places. I need new products like I need a third eye, but every once in a while I feel compelled to drop some serious cash…and this time I wasn’t disappointed by ANY of the products, so it was time to make a post and share. Everything mentioned was purchased by moi.

Oh my gosh y’all…if I say I don’t know how I lived without this concealer, know that I realize that sounds incredibly overdramatic, and I’m okay with it. I’d previously purchased the Born This Way Foundation, but ordered too light so I gave it to my daughter. But I wanted to purchase a concealer that I could use on my undereyes in a manner that would slightly highlight the area. In other words…I purchased a little light to brighten and make me look a little less like I get under 5 hours of sleep a night on average. This stuff is MAGIC. You don’t need to use very much. It really goes a long way. There’s a little doe foot applicator, which makes it easy to stick a little dab here and a little dab there. I usually stick some in a stripe under both eyes, and a little dab on my forehead to brighten…and then stick whatever is left on my beauty blender around my nose. If I have any blemishes that need covered, I usually have enough left on my beauty blender for that also. And my method is to always put concealer on AFTER your foundation! I used to do it the other way round, but not anymore. Also, another tip that sounds simple but I only started following recently…only layer what you must on your under eye area. For example, since I know I’m going to put brightener and concealer on my under eyes, I don’t put foundation there. That’s one less product, which helps to keep it from looking too cakey. Super simple, but extremely effective! Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer is a game changer for me, and even my daughter loves it…so works for mature skin and young thangs. $29 on Sephora

IT COSMETICS Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

I have been on a quest for the perfect foundation for a while now. I previously tried a different IT Cosmetics foundation and hated it. I even went on an InstaStories rant about the stuff, and basically tossed it in the bin after two tries. It was with some trepidation that I purchased this formulation, and I’m pretty sure it came at the urging of some beauty guru on YouTube. Y’all know I’m a sucker for a good YouTube recommendation! The Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream is a full-coverage foundation that does a damn fine job of color correcting my uneven patches, with the added benefit of a physical sunscreen. It also apparently contains anti-aging juju of some variety (hyaluronic acid, peptides, niacin, vitamins, etc). I rarely wear foundation without primer, but this stuff will stay on my face all day and keeps my skin looking pretty damn good. Ladies, if you’re not using primer, you’re missing out. But I am digging this foundation…for the moment. $38 on Sephora

Naked Heat Palette

I am in LOVE with this Naked Heat Palette! I am a simple woman, y’all…I love a good mildly dramatic eye, with a neutral lip. It’s my “look”. It’s what I do almost every day I actually put my makeup on. It makes me happy. I think I’m getting better and better at achieving an eye look that makes me feel good when I look in the mirror. I read something recently that said reddish colors look really good on green eyes, and since I have eyes that are green…ish, I bought this palette because it has a lot of orangey-red shades. Boy, were they right!! Not only does it look good on me, but my daughter has these gorgeous true green eyes that pop so hard when she wears this eyeshadow palette. They are showstoppers! I’m sure the colors would look great on folks with other eye shades, but if you’re a green-eyed girl, these hues are a must. $54 on Sephora

Clean Reserve Aqua Neroli

I refer to myself as a perfume whore. For those who take issue with the name, you’ve never seen my perfume collection. Said collection has been culled due to copious military moves, and a husband who detests clutter…and my propensity for throwing things at my daughter when she comes home from college on the weekend. But I love perfume. I wear it every day, even if I’m just hanging out at the house on the weekend, and don’t plan on changing out of my flannel pajama bottoms. It’s one of my “things”. I’m a big fan of the Clean perfumes, although not necessarily their price tag…as they aren’t the cheapest smelly goods you can find. BUT, you can layer these fragrances if you’d like, and you can occasionally find gift sets around the holidays with packs of multiple scents, which is a great way to find which ones you love the most and what scents smell best together. I recently bought this one in a larger bottle because I LOVE it. I’m a fan of citrus smells, and this one has both bergamot and neroli, but the blend together doesn’t smell like I splashed a heavier smelling hand wash on myself or anything. It has a slight spice to it, and some note that I’m not sophisticated enough to describe…I just love the way it smells when I spray it on me. Next time you’re in a Sephora, play around with the Clean Scents. The travel spray is $25 at Sephora.

Billie Razor

My last one isn’t quite beauty…but I’m including it because I don’t know where else to put it! I recently converted to using Billie razors, and I have never been happier shaving my legs. I know a lot of people wax, but I’m an old school shaver…mainly because I’m too lazy to consistently go somewhere to remove body hair. Every time I spent a ton on crappy razors at the grocery store, I would cringe. So when I started seeing these online, I thought…why not give them a try? The first time I shaved my legs with this large and glorious razor, I fell in love. The head is larger than my old razor, so it takes less time to shave. And with 5 blades encased in aloe goodness, it gives me a nice close shave. OOH, and their shave cream smells AMAZING, and stays on your legs in the shower…and may have replaced my L’Occitane oil. Being a subscription service, you initially get the handle and two razor blades for $9, and then it’s $9 for 4 heads in the future…and you can choose whether you want them to come monthly or every other month. Money. Saver.

So those are a few of my new beauty faves. Do we have any favorites in common? Any other Naked Palette fanatics out there? I’d love to hear in the comments below. I’d also love it if you let me know a favorite you’re into at the moment…you know, in case I’m bored and decide I need to spend some more money again!!
